5 Reasons to Dress with 10 Pieces of Clothing
In March, I only dressed with 10 pieces of clothing. You can read the reason why (part 1) and my update (part 2) here:
I wanted to wrap up that experiment with some final thoughts on how having only 10 pieces of clothing worked out for me, and what I think about it for you.
5 Things that Happen when you only have 10 Pieces of Clothing
1. You look good in everything you wear
When you have only 10 things, you obviously pick the very best clothes for your body. You’re not going to waste a precious space on those low rise jeans from high school that show your stretch marks every time you reach up to grab a pack of Pull-Ups off the shelf at Target.
When you only have 10 pieces of clothing, you pick the jeans that turn heads (in a good way, not in an OMG what is she wearing kind of way) every time you wear them.
2. All your clothes are always clean
Girl, you have so much laundry from all those other people you take care of. So much. Why add to it? 10 things wash up super fast, and if you’re lucky enough to avoid spit up and flying ketchup, you might get away with not washing your jeans every time you wear them. (Or just choose really dark jeans and no one will notice the spots. Shhh….I won’t tell).
3. You can get dressed with your eyes closed
Pick tops that go with all your bottoms and bottoms that go with all your tops. Bam, everything matches. Sleep training kept you up all night and now you can’t open your eyes? Those trusty 10 pieces of your clothing in the closet have your back.
4. You develop your signature style
Defining your style can be tricky when you don’t have tons of time to devote to shopping and reading all those fashion magazines. When you dress with only 10 things for a period of time, you can figure out really quickly what works for you, what doesn’t, what you like, and what you really, really love.
5. Packing for a trip is easier than ever
You already have to pack for every other person that lives under your roof, so make it easier on yourself. When you have only 10 pieces of clothing, you take 5 minutes and put them all in your carry on and move on to more important things like SNACKS.
Bonus: You become more confident
Okay, so I said 5 things but here’s a bonus, and it’s the best one of all. Confidence, Momma! When you dress with only 10 things, you don’t spend so much time and energy worrying about what to wear to each errand, event, or activity. Because of that, you stop second-guessing yourself. You look good because all your clothes look good on you and they all make sense for your life.
And really? Confidence is what makes a woman look great. Not the Instagram-perfect tee that says the clever phrase paired with that flattering denim torn in just the right spots styled with all the most coveted accessories.
Now that you know what can happen if you try a 10 piece capsule wardrobe, I wanted to give my 100% honest, real opinion on the whole thing.
It’s not for me.
Now, you know I love me some capsule wardrobes. I am usually pretty happy around the 30 piece range, including shoes and bags. But 10 pieces of clothing was a little too extreme for me. I had so much fun with it because I knew it was only 31 days. I don’t think I could make it my life. I don’t need much variety, but it turns out I have a limit.
What do you think? Could you ever try something this extreme with your wardrobe? How about a regular capsule with around 35 items? Let me know in the comments. I’m dying to hear your thoughts!
